CATARACT

What is Eye Cataract?

Cataract in the eye is an eye disease that is frequently seen in middle-aged and older people, which causes the eye to see blurred by losing the transparency of the eye lens located behind the pupil over time. In the examination to be made; The transparency of the cornea, the structure of the cataract, the position of the lens, the width of the pupil, the condition of the retina are examined in detail before the operation plan, and the patient’s cataract treatment is evaluated in terms of operation.

LASER AND INTRA OCULAR LENS

First of all, the laser method is not new, contrary to popular belief, it is a form of treatment that has been successfully applied since 1990. There are 13 different methods and cutting-edge technology applied in laser treatment, which is popularly known as eye drawing.

The eye examination for laser treatment takes approximately one and a half hours and requires an examination that includes detailed examinations. Laser treatment, popularly known as eye drawing, is applied for the treatment of refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

 

Who is suitable for Laser Treatments?

  • People with myopia up to -10 diopters

EYE PRESSURE

“Eye Tension” or glaucoma among the people is damage to the optic nerve due to the frequent increase in intraocular pressure. As a result, the visual field of the person gradually narrows. Glaucoma, an insidious disease that makes itself known in the last stages of the disease, can cause serious damage to the optic nerve that cannot be repaired when diagnosed late.

Who Gets Glaucoma?

People with higher than normal intraocular pressure have a higher risk of developing glaucoma; however, it does not mean that everyone with high intraocular pressure can have glaucoma.

People over the age of 40 have an increased risk of glaucoma.

Glaucoma may be related to genetics. People with a family history of glaucoma are at higher risk of developing it. In other words, one or more genes may be defective and these individuals may become more susceptible to the disease.

LAZY EYE (Amblyopia)

Amblyopia is the visual capacity of one eye lower than the other eye or both eyes compared to the normal limits, although there is no structural disorder in the eye or optic nerve. Sight is a sense learned from birth. As our brain develops, our vision also improves and we learn to see in more detail. If there is a situation that prevents us from seeing in this period, for example, if there is a higher number in one eye than the other, the vision in that side is learned more blurred and that eye remains lazy.

Refractive error: The fact that refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism are much more in one eye than the other can cause lazy eye.

Strabismus: Sliding in one eye Strabismus is the loss of parallelism of both eyes with each other. There are 6 extraocular muscles in each eye. A lack or excess of strength in one or more of these causes strabismus. While one eye is looking straight, the other may look inward, outward, up or down. In some cases, slippage is present in both eyes. Depending on the cause of the strabismus, it can occur continuously or temporarily. There is no single cause of strabismus. Strabismus can occur for different reasons. Early diagnosis is very important in the treatment of strabismus.

 

OCULOPLASTY

Oculoplasty and orbital surgery is a specialty that deals with diseases of the eyelids, tear ducts and orbital sockets.

Oculoplasty and orbital surgery are performed for the treatment of all eye diseases such as the removal of eye bags, the construction of prosthetic eyes, intraocular tumor surgeries, botox, almond eye, chalazion, plexer and thyroid eye disease, and aesthetic surgery applications.

The eyelid is a much more sensitive area than other tissues in the body. The eyelid skin is the thinnest skin area of the body. In all surgical interventions in oculoplasty and orbital surgery, it is very important not to damage healthy tissues and to intervene only where necessary. CORNEA

The cornea is the inclined transparent layer of the eye, which is located at the front of the eye, has the task of focusing the light and protecting the eye from external factors, and plays a major role in the function of vision.

Ophthalmologists use some devices to evaluate corneal morphology and function;

  • Biomicroscopy: It is useful for binocular examination of the cornea and other structures of the anterior segment. Light beams of different thicknesses are sent from different angles, enabling magnification of the biomicroscope and the cornea can be examined. It is the most commonly used inspection method routinely.
  • Keratometry: It is the measurement of the refractive power of the cornea. It is used before contact lens and intraocular lens implantation.
  • Topography: It is used in the topographic analysis of the anterior surface of the cornea.
  • Pachymetry: It is the measurement of corneal thickness.
  • Specular microscopy: It shows the endothelial cell number and structure.
  • Estesiometry: It is useful for the evaluation of corneal sensitivity.
  • Examination of the cornea by staining: Defects on the corneal surface can be seen with “fluoresseine and rose bengal” solution.

 

RETINAL DISEASES

The retina is the network layer that covers the posterior wall of the eyeball like a wallpaper and consists of visual cells. At the same time, the retina consists of 10 layers within itself, the retina layer is the most complex and sensitive point of the eye. The retina allows the light to be transmitted to our brain as an image, and in this way it is possible for us to see. Problems that occur in the retina are not an eye disorder, but an eye condition. Early diagnosis is very important at this point. If you have one or more of the following symptoms in your eyes, you should definitely see a retinal doctor for an examination.
